The Painting Process
Booklet - Historical Still Life Paintings

Booklets were prepared to provide understanding of the significance of each item that was used in the paintings. They were available at the judicial complex. This double page from the booklet relates to the Spanish Colonial period, which began with the Coronado Expedition in 1540, and lasted until 1848 when the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the war between the United States and Mexico. The image is Carrying Old Traditions to a New World. It is helpful for viewers to become familiar with some of the terminology of these objects to better appreciate this description of the painting process. The full booklet is now online  HERE.
